Update on planned James Coppinger documentary

30 December 2022

Following a recent pause, production for the documentary reflecting on the career of James Coppinger will resume following investment in the project from musician and passionate Rovers supporter Louis Tomlinson.

After discussions with the club and the documentary’s producer and director Lewis Reeves alongside production company Marshall Communications, Doncaster-born Tomlinson agreed to invest in the documentary.

The significant investment will allow production to move forward once again.

The documentary will look back at Coppinger’s record-breaking 17-year Rovers playing career and examine his new role as head of football operations, with behind-the-scenes access to the man himself.

Initial funding for the project was raised through a supporter crowdfunding scheme with Doncaster-born actor Reeves filming the final days of Coppinger’s playing career. Since then club partners, Red Viking Rail have further supported the project, along with their sponsorship of both the West Stand and academy teams.

“I’m delighted that we can continue with this exciting project and thank Louis immensely for his contribution, which will take the final product to a brand new level,” Reeves said. “I’m more than confident this will be a film that Rovers supporters will love and the chance to celebrate someone so iconic for us all.

“We have some great footage already and I’m really looking forward to adding to that in the weeks to come.”

Coppinger said: “I’m thankful as always to Louis for his investment and I’m looking forward to seeing the finished project. Lewis has had an exciting vision for this since the very start and it’ll be great to see it completed.”
