Confidence high among squad insists Hurst

8 December 2022

Kyle Hurst insists confidence among the Rovers squad remains high as they prepare to head to Newport County this weekend.

Rovers have fallen to defeat in the last two matches but Hurst believes the side is on the right track as long as the players stick to the gameplan being implemented by head coach Danny Schofield.

Hurst on the test of Newport:

“Every game is a challenge and we don’t take any test lightly. We’re looking forward to it after good preparations and we’re determined to get a result on Saturday.”

On confidence in the camp and getting back on track:

“Confidence is always high among the players and the staff. We show it in training. It’s always a process, we know it as players and confidence is good.

“We just need keep doing what we’re doing - keep doing what we’re doing in training, preparing right and the results will come, we know that.

“It’s about finding the consistency.

“We’re always learning - even the manager and his staff are learning together. We’re taking on board what he wants and we’ll be fine.

“If we stick to the game plan then the consistency will come.

“There’s ups and downs in football all the time so it’s about the mental strength of the players and knowing what we practice and sticking to that.”

On his own form:

“There’s a bit of frustration that I’ve not scored more goals but it’s not an excuse. It’s about doing the right things in training and the goals will come. That’s just football.

“I’m feeling positive.

“Everyone wants to play and I always want to play. But I know I’m young and I respect what the gaffer wants.

“I don’t take it as a criticism, I respect it and every day I’m working hard to get back in the team.

“Every day is a learning day for me, on and off the field. It’s about reacting and I know with how I am in training that I’ll get back into the team.

“I still feel really good. I’m enjoying my football and looking forward to the busy Christmas period.”
