Knoyle: I felt a goal was coming for me

11 December 2022

Kyle Knoyle felt his goal had been coming ahead of netting the winner for Rovers at Newport County.

Knoyle - who played in a back three for the first time this season - lashed in the only goal of the game as Rovers returned to winning ways.

And after a period of good personal form in attacking terms, the 26-year-old felt it was only a matter of time that he grabbed his second ever goal for the club.

On his goal;

“I’m pleased to get my first goal of the season. It’s been coming - I’ve had a few chances.

“I had the opportunity to get forward, gave it to Ben Close and it came back to me and I just thought I’d hit it. It went in and I’m happy with the goal.

“I felt like throughout the game there was only one team creating a lot of chances and I’m happy we managed to finish it off.”

On the manner of the performance:

“That result has been coming with our performances in recent games. I know the results haven’t been there but we believe in what we’re doing and we’re going to continue doing it.

“Hopefully there will be more results like today.

“It’s a results business but from a team perspective it’s good because we’ll keep building on what we’ve been doing. If we keep doing what we’ve been doing, it’ll follow through in results.

“Everyone had the belief. We had a few near chances but we finished the one and then ground out the win, which is another good trait to have.”

On playing in a back three:

“I feel like I’ve got a lot of experience doing it from last season, with as a centre back in a back three or a back two.

“I had Charlie Seaman alongside me and he played superbly today.”
