Schofield wants consistency at start of a new year

31 December 2022

Danny Schofield is looking for Rovers to get off the rollercoaster and start 2023 as they mean to go on as they welcome Carlisle United to the Eco-Power Stadium.

Schofield wants more consistency in the manner of performances from his side in the long term, starting with posting another positive result following the victory over Rochdale.

Schofield on the test of Carlisle:

“It’s going to be a difficult game. They’ve got a lot of momentum and some really talented players.

“Paul Simpson has got them playing some really good, solid football. It’s going to be a challenge.

“They’re a strong team in our division."

On progress made since the reverse fixture:

“We want consistency in our performances and that takes time and a lot of effort.

“I think it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster. There have been periods where it felt as if everything was clicking and you just want consistency, but then you suffer defeats.

“That’s football. There’s going to be plenty of ups and downs along the way. We aim for consistency in our performances.

“It’s difficult to say that we’re there in terms of what we want. Do you really ever get there? Probably not.

“You always feel as though you’re getting somewhere and you get hit a little bit and have to reassess.

“It’s a half way point when you get to the New Year stage. We’ll assess where we are and plan for the second half of the season."

On the health of the squad:

“Tommy Rowe’s injury was just an innocuous one in a passing drill and he went down feeling his back. He had a couple of days at home recovering and he’ll be assessed. It’ll probably come too early for him.

“We’ll have a look at Adam Clayton. His was a minor injury but it was discussed with him and agreed he’d miss tonight. We’ll see how he is over the next couple of days."
