Schofield keen for more attacking output at Newport

8 December 2022

Danny Schofield is looking for his side to have a more clinical edge to their play when they travel to face Newport County this weekend.

Rovers haven’t scored in their past two league games, and the head coach says the key will be getting attacking players on the ball more in advanced areas at Rodney Parade.

He said: “There were moments in attack against Walsall where I thought we could have been quicker and more precise, our final third actions was an area we needed to improve on.

“We want to build the play in our style and then get as much support in and around George Miller as we can to give ourselves the best chance of scoring.

“That can come in many different ways and it’s down to myself firstly to work out how we can do that, and then the players to execute it.”

Rovers go up against a County side who have lost just once in their past six matches, and Schofield is expecting a tough game in South Wales.

He added: “They’re a team in good form and similar to a number of teams we’ve faced recently in the sense that they’ve got a settled formation.

“They’ve got some good players who can unbalance the game in different situations, so it will be a really competitive game for us.

“There are always going to be disappointments in football but you have to bounce back as quickly as possible and not let that feeling linger, that’s the aim on Saturday.”
