Since we last met: Carlisle United

31 December 2022

Rovers take on Carlisle United in Sky Bet League Two on New Year’s Day looking to start 2023 with a victory.

Danny Schofield’s side are aiming for back-to-back league victories after coming out on top against Rochdale on December 29.

The last meeting

Rovers were beaten 3-0 at Carlisle when the two sides last met at Brunton Park back in October. The game looked set to be goalless at half-time before Callum Guy scored from distance to put the home side in front.

Derby loanee Jack Stretton then scored twice in the second-half to complete the win for Carlisle in what was Rovers’ final game before the appointment of Danny Schofield as head coach.

Carlisle’s recent form

The Cumbrians have lost just one of their past six league fixtures stretching back to a 0-0 draw at home to Walsall on November 12.

A week later they went to Salford and returned with a 4-1 victory in the bag, before starting December with a 1-1 draw against Sutton United. Their only defeat in recent weeks came at the hands of Northampton Town, who edged the final game before Christmas 2-1 at Sixfields.

Paul Simpson’s side have responded well to that though and have picked up maximum points from the festive period since then, beating Bradford on home soil before cruising past Crewe Alexandra last time out.
