Dan Gardner's converted spot kick was the difference as Gary McSheffrey's side made it three away wins in four.
Lincoln City boasted most of the possession but failed to really test goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell as Rovers put in a robust defensive display. Tommy Rowe's strike was blocked by the arm of Joe Walsh which allowed Gardner a goal from 12-yards.
Things went from bad to worse for Walsh who just minutes later fouled Ro-Shaun Williams earning himself a second yellow. Rovers were able to see out the remaining time to take all three points from the LNER Stadium.
