The goals and highlights as Rovers made it back-to-back wins on the road.
Gary McSheffrey’s side were well-organised and hardworking as they limited Sunderland to half-chances in the opening stages. Once they got on the ball, they caused the home side problems with their direct play and tireless running.
Reo Griffiths was clinical when he ran from deep to meet a perfectly weighted ball over the top from Josh Martin and finish smartly across the keeper while Tommy Rowe’s stunning over-the-shoulder finish on the stroke of half-time proved crucial.
Sunderland came out fighting in the second period and forced a string of fine saves from Jonathan Mitchell before getting one back in the 89th minute through Corry Evans, but Rovers held on throughout the four minutes of injury time to take home another valuable three points.
