In opposition: Accrington Stanley - what they're saying

21 February 2022

A manager that is serving his second spell with the club, John Coleman has seen just about everything at the Wham Stadium, and he’s steered the club through good and bad times.

Coleman previously served as manager of Stanley from 1999-2012, and returned in 2014. Sprinkled in-between were managerial positions at Rochdale, Southport and Sligo Rovers, respectively. In all, he has accumulated over 390 career wins for the Reds, in what is now just under 20 years at the helm at the Wham Stadium.

Manager John Coleman's Quotes:

On his team’s recent loss to Cambridge United:

“I don’t think we deserved to lose. I think anyone that was in the ground would agree with that.

“What’s plagued us all season and the reason we’re not in the play-offs is because we’ve made silly mistakes.

“To concede that goal – it’s a killer. We were playing like the home team and Cambridge were playing like the away team on the counter.”

On the missed chances in the game against Cambridge:

“We had two good chances. We had a good chance before they scored, but it was scrambled off the line.

"Their first goal isn’t really a chance. It’s just a howling mistake. We’re well into double-figures with those this season. And that’s why we are where we are right now in the league.

“We didn’t carve out enough clear-cut opportunities that our possession deserved and that our play deserved. Ultimately, if you don’t take your chances and you give the other team a goal, you get beaten.”

On the game against Rovers:

“I’d like to think it’s a good thing the game is coming so fast this week. You’d have to ask the players.

“I’m struggling to remember us winning when we’ve had an overnight stay this season, and that’s something that might have to be assessed.”
