Martin encouraged by Accrington win

23 February 2022

The Rovers squad are relishing the challenge of the battle in Sky Bet League One, according to forward Josh Martin.

The Norwich City loanee scored the opening goal for Rovers in the 2-0 victory over Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night.

On beating Accrington:

“It was a very good win and hopefully the fans are lifted and encouraged by what they saw.

“Accrington are always a difficult team to play against with their long balls and strength aerially.

“With the amount of shots I was having I thought it was not going to be my night. The hardest chance of the night was the one I scored.

“From taking the lead we started to believe it was our night.”

On the feeling within the changing room:

“As a team we all bounce off each other. Everyone loves playing together.

“We enjoyed Tuesday evening but now it is back to work because another win at the weekend gets us closer to safety and that is all we are focused on.

“The target I set myself when I joined in January was to help the team stay in the league.

“Everyone is relishing the challenge. We are only a young group of players. No matter what has happened, we have never dropped our heads. We have kept our belief and there is a big chance we can stay up now.”
