McSheffrey targeting consistency

8 February 2022

Gary McSheffrey has challenged his side to back up Saturday’s victory over Sunderland with another good performance.

Rovers caused an upset beating Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last time out and will be looking to cause another upset this evening when they host Ipswich Town at the Eco-Power Stadium.

On building on Sunderland victory:

“Saturday was a good performance from the lads. They showed a real desire to win and the mentality, especially second half, was superb.

“They need to back it up now with another performance. We want some consistency, and points on the board and for the lads to grow in confidence.

“We need to produce the same performance level and take our chances, then results take care of themselves. That’s how we’ll be approaching things.

“We haven’t got too down when we’ve lost and we won’t go over the top now we’ve won.

“It’s about getting continuity now but good results will help with that.

“We’ll just keep working hard, focus on what we do and go into every game with the belief that we can cause some upsets.”

On the challenge of Ipswich Town:

“The new manager has come in and inherited a really good squad and got them playing some really good football.

“They’re good on the ball and have some great attacking options. Kieran McKenna has got some really good wins.

“They won quite ugly on Saturday against a difficult opposition in Gillingham so they win with style and they can win ugly - it’s going to be a tough game.”

On Josh Martin:

“We are delighted that he’s come here. He was excited about the challenge of being bottom of the league and the possibility of having a big impact here.

“He’s brought a bit of composure that we’ve been missing this season. He’s got a calmness so he can conjure up a good final ball.

“I’ve challenged him to have the desire to assist someone every game and get goals and shots off. He’s taken that on board, and he’s been really good.”
