Mitchell on tough Accrington Stanley test

22 February 2022

Jonathan Mitchell has called for unity as Rovers head into an important run of games starting with Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night.

The goalkeeper joined in the January transfer window as competition to Louis Jones and made his debut against Rotherham United earlier this month. He has since played a vital role in picking up important wins against Sunderland and Lincoln City.

On his reflection of the Sheffield Wednesday game:

“For large parts of the game, there was a lot of positives to take. They made some quality substitutions.

“There is a big period coming up where there’s a lot of teams around us that we are going to play. We have to stick together throughout this period.

“There are games coming up where we can take three points, and also take points off teams around us.”

On what he expects from Accrington:

“Accrington are a well-drilled side who can play good football and they are strong from set pieces.

“We have a plan of how to win and head into the game full of confidence within ourselves.”

On his move to Rovers:

“I have settled in well. There is a great group of lads here. I managed to get in the team quite early I just want us to start winning more games now.

“Sometimes there needs to be time for people to settle in and get to know everyone.”
