Mitchell praises team performance

6 February 2022

Jonathan Mitchell was delighted with the team performance Rovers produced to get a win against promotion-chasing Sunderland.

Mitchell was part of a tight and organised defensive unit, keeping the Black Cats out for long periods and producing key saves throughout the game.

On the team work:

“It was a great team effort. We knew we could frustrate Sunderland and we sensed the atmosphere changing when we went 2-0 up.

“We wanted to be solid at the back. We knew with Mipo [Odubeko] and Reo [Griffiths] up top that they would cause problems.

“As a team, we put our bodies on the line and put in some important blocks at times to keep Sunderland at bay.

“We had to be confident and back each other. It was a full team performance.”

On the competition for the number one spot:

“We have a good group of goalkeepers at the club, coached excellently by Steve Hernandez with Louis Jones, Ben Bottomley and Luke Chadwick.

“They are all excellent and we are all each other’s biggest supporters and push each other on.”
