In opposition: Wigan Athletic - what they're saying

14 January 2022

Leam Richardson is in his first season at the helm of the Wigan Athletic after previously serving two spells as caretaker manager for the club.

Prior to his arrival at Wigan, Richardson was an assistant coach under Paul Cook at Chesterfield and Portsmouth, until later following Cook to the DW Stadium.

While serving under Cook, Richardson proved to be instrumental in helping Wigan earn promotion to the Championship following the 2017/18 season. As a player, Richardson played for a number of teams throughout a 16-year career, with stops at Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Blackpool and Accrington Stanley.

Manager Leam Richardson Quotes

On the recent signing of Josh Magennis and others for his team:

“It’s supposedly well-documented that in some quarters, we have a plethora of riches and players. I think the more sane ones will know we haven’t spent millions of pounds, and we have been really stringent in going for experienced free agents.

“You look at our numbers and it is something we want to increase over the next few weeks, in order to be competitive in every game. That’s our sole focus, our sole aim and our sole direction. It’s for others to make things of make believe stuff.”
