Knoyle makes no excuses

3 January 2022

Kyle Knoyle felt there were no excuses for Rovers 4-3 defeat away to Morecambe.

Gary McSheffrey’s side were 3-0 up at half-time after goals from Aidan Barlow, Dan Gardner, and Joseph Olowu but a second half come back from the Shrimps left Rovers heartbroken.

On his reflection of the match:

“The result was very disappointing and difficult to take after being 3-0 up. We need to take the positives of the first half with us into our upcoming games. We started sharp, worked hard and were clinical in front of goal.

“We created chances from the wide areas and we did our defensive duties well in the first half. There was a real togetherness out there.

“But in the second half we were nowhere near good enough and we need to make sure that never happens again.

“Performing well for 45 minutes is never going to be enough, we need to replicate that first-half across the full 90.”

On his disappointment for the fans:

“The fans gave us a massive boost and we’re grateful to them for their support. We are gutted we could not get the three points for them.

“There are no excuses to be in the position we were in and not come away with three points.

“The dressing room is disappointed, but we need to regroup and take the positives from today because we have a game again Saturday.”
