Martin keen to help improve Rovers

19 January 2022

Josh Martin spoke to the media following the 3-1 defeat at Cambridge United in Sky Bet League One.

The Norwich City loanee twice went close to a debut goal at the Abbey Stadium, with one effort hitting the crossbar and another being cleared off the line.

On a positive performance:

“It was a tough defeat to take, I thought we played well as a team especially in the first half and deserved to have two or three goals.

“That’s how football goes sometimes, we were surprised not to be ahead and we had to regroup at half-time.

“It was nice to have a hand in the goal and in that move you could see the chemistry is already there with me and the other players.

“We had an attacking threat all game but obviously the one thing that matters is they put the ball in the net more times than we did.”

On where he feels he can help the team:

“I spoke with the manager and got along really well with him from the start, I see this as a massive opportunity to come here and help the team.

“It’s going to be a tough challenge but I believe we’ve got the characters and ability in the team to get out of this.

“I’m comfortable playing anywhere along the front three and I think the way the manager wants to play suits me.”
