McSheffrey: I can't ask for much more from the players

19 January 2022

Gary McSheffrey spoke to the media following the 3-1 defeat at Cambridge United in Sky Bet League One.

Rovers created chance after chance at the Abbey Stadium but were once again left empty handed on the road.

On missed opportunities:

“Ultimately they took a chance when it came along after the multiple opportunities we created.

“I thought we played well, we mixed it up and turned them when we had to and got on the end of second balls.

“To come in at half-time 1-0 down after hitting the woodwork three times was very hard to take.

“I think the opening 45 is the best we’ve played, and if we keep reaching that level then I can’t ask any more of them.”

On the players giving everything:

“The lads have got to embrace the challenge and treat this as the last 20 games of their career to give them the motivation to turn things around.

“As a player a lot of games pass you by and you regret them, so these boys need to make sure they’re leaving everything out there week after week.

“We’re improving in our performance and in most games we’ve lost by the odd goal, if we can tighten that up then the points will come.”
