McSheffrey looks ahead to Morecambe

1 January 2022

Gary McSheffrey spoke to the media ahead of his first match after being named permanent manager of Rovers.

His side travel to Morecambe on Sunday looking for their first league win on the road this season.

On Morecambe:

“I expect aggression and for them to be on the front foot, with a front two that press well.

“They’ve got physical strikers who cause defenders problems and fast wingbacks who like to join in attacks.

“We’ve been doing work on the training ground, putting over the messages we want to give our team and working on things so we can get the results.

“It’s a game against a team that is around us and it’s important when you’re down that end of the table that you take points off teams around you. We’ll be going there and trying to get the win.”

On short-term planning:

“It’s a results business – we want to win games. Short term, it isn’t about me putting a playing style into a team.

“We’re just thinking about what the best set up us for this group of players in this moment.

“You inherit a squad of players and it could take ten or twelve weeks to implement a new playing style until their comfortable with it. We haven’t got that time, so we’ll put out what we feel is the strongest team on any given day and adapt to see if we can beat the opposition.”
