Gary McSheffrey believes Ollie Younger will become a real asset for Rovers after the defender joined the club from Sunderland.
The 22-year-old signed an 18-month deal on Wednesday, and the manager was pleased to get his man.
He said: "It was really important that we got a defender in, and when Ollie’s name was put to us we saw it as a good opportunity for the club.
“He’s got really good pedigree, he’s young and hungry which is the type of player we want here.
“He will be a good asset for the club and we feel he can be important for us in the short and long term.”
McSheffrey says Rovers supporters will enjoy the way Younger goes about his business on the pitch.
He added: “It’s about giving players like Ollie a chance to play, we’ll give him that and I think the fans will take to him.
“He’s aggressive and a bit of an old school defender in the way he plays, he’s quick and can also play out from the back too.
“You have to strike and assess the situation fast which is what we’ve done to bring Ollie in.”
