Hard work starts now for Degruchy

28 July 2022

Jack Degruchy has pledged to not rest on his laurels after securing a two-year contract with Rovers.

The midfielder joined Rovers on trial at the start of pre-season training and impressed sufficiently to earn a contract.

And the 18-year-old is fully aware the hard work starts here in his Rovers career.

“There’s no settling now,” he said. “It’s time to kick on again. Nothing is given to you and you’ve got to prove yourself.

“I’ll try to get into the team as much as I can and make as many appearances as I can.

“I’m a midfielder and since I’ve been here I’ve been playing more on the right, and I think I’ll find enjoyment out there.

“I’m good on a set piece, I like to whip them in. I work hard on and off the ball and I’m a good team player.”

Degruchy’s former youth team coach at York City - and ex-Rovers full back - Tim Ryan recommended the youngster to head of football operations James Coppinger as a potential trialist.

“Tim helped me all the time,” Degruchy said. “He loves the club and he used to talk to me about it all the time.

“He said it would be a great environment for me and he was spot on.”
