Jack Degruchy ticks all the right boxes for the type of young player Rovers want to recruit according to first team manager Gary McSheffrey.
The 18-year-old midfielder capped a successful trial with the club by securing a two-year deal.
“He’s just fitted into what we’ve got going on here at the minute and he’s the type we want,” McSheffrey said.
“He’s a good character. He’s really likeable and all the lads get on with him and have welcomed him in straight away.
“I’ve just been impressed with him.
“He was a bit of an unknown to us. We took a punt on him, bringing him in on trial and he’s impressed.
“He’s technically a good player and his profile physically is very good. He's got a bit of growing to do but we feel he’ll turn into a good physique and the type you want in a modern day footballer.”
McSheffrey says he is looking forward to developing the former York City midfielder during his time with Rovers.
He said: “He’s got a two-year deal. It gives him time.
“Are we expecting him to come and be a fixture in the team and a regular starter this year? Probably not.
“We do see him as a development-type player. Between the ages of 18 and 20, a lot can go on. A lot of growth and maturing.
“We’d like to think it’s a good, calculated punt for us and he’s earned his deal.”
