McSheffrey pleased with Hurst & Tomlin additions

23 July 2022

Gary McSheffrey was delighted to add more attacking options to his squad after the arrivals of both Kyle Hurst and Lee Tomlin on Friday.

The pair put pen to paper after impressing on trial, to take the number of signings this summer to eight.

On managing to secure them both:

“They have both come in during pre-season and we’re well aware of the quality they possess going forward.

“They will both be fan favourites. They’re intelligent players that we want to represent Doncaster Rovers so it’s good to get them in the building.

“We’ve made eight signings and for me we’ve recruited well. We’ve equipped ourselves really nicely and added a lot of quality.”

On Lee Tomlin:

“Lee hasn’t had the easiest of times but he’s back enjoying his football again and it’s good to see him with a smile on his face.

“I’m delighted to get him over the line, despite being 33 we feel he’s got a good few years left in him and his footballing brain will be big for us.

“He’s one stop ahead and we’ve seen during pre-season that he can play through one touch and hold the ball up as well.

“We’ve created an environment that he loves. He enjoys his training and we hope that can bring out the best of him on the pitch.”

On Kyle Hurst:

“Kyle has the desire and is desperate for the opportunity that probably wasn’t going to come for him at Birmingham.

“He’s buzzing to be here and you can see the smile on his face. He’s got a club that believe in him which is what a young player needs.

“He’s good, he can pivot and go either way past a defender. He’s a real threat and loves to get shots away when he gets a chance.”
