McSheffrey: plenty of improvement to come

24 July 2022

Gary McSheffrey urged his side to keep improving after the 3-0 pre-season friendly win over FC United of Manchester.

Goals from George Miller, Harrison Biggins and Josh Andrews secured victory at Broadhurst Park, and the manager says there is still plenty of room for improvement.

He said: “I didn’t think we started too well, it was probably as poorly as we’ve played throughout pre-season for the first 15 minutes or so.

“Midway through the first half we got a grip of the game and started to create chances, once we got the goal it was pretty comfortable.

“We scored our second at a good time and it was to see Harrison get a goal, and then big Josh Andrews came on and got himself one too.

“We wanted a win and a clean sheet, but we’d still like to be better with the ball so the players know we’ve still got work to do.”

Having remained unbeaten throughout the summer schedule, McSheffrey is hoping to continue the good habits leading into the Sky Bet League Two season.

He added: “We’ve got through unbeaten, our performances have been good in parts and we’ve shown we have plenty of goals in us.

“We’ve got enough in the squad to adapt and mix things up if needed, and that is exactly what you want going into the new season.”
