McSheffrey: Rotherham another good test

19 July 2022

Gary McSheffrey is looking forward to his side going up against Sky Bet Championship opposition for the second time in pre-season on Tuesday night.

Rovers face South Yorkshire neighbours Rotherham United at the Eco-Power Stadium after beating overcoming Huddersfield Town last time out.

McSheffrey said: “Rotherham are always a tough team to play against, they’re well drilled and Paul Warne will have them ready to perform with a couple of weeks until the new season.

“They mix their game up really well and have got some good footballers too, they can hurt you if you let them so we have to be ready for what they throw at us and be adaptable.

“We feel we’re in a good place and progressing nicely, it should be a good game and we are all looking forward to getting another one under our belt.”

With temperatures continuing to rise in the UK ahead of kick-off, McSheffrey says he and the rest of the coaching staff have managed the demands on the squad over the past couple of days.

He added: “The players had Sunday off to recover and then they were in and on the grass early on Monday to try and get a session in before the temperatures got too high.

“We were lucky to get the lads in and got everything we wanted from the session while the conditions weren’t too uncomfortable.

“It’s a chance to get more minutes into the squad but we have to be cautious with the weather and make sure we have plenty of drinks breaks during the game so that players are able to get the minutes we want them to.”
