Younger enjoying versatility

18 July 2022

Ollie Younger says the focus has been on getting ready to go again against Rotherham United on Tuesday night.

The game against the Millers will be the second time in four days that Rovers have come up against Sky Bet Championship opposition at the Eco-Power Stadium, having beaten Huddersfield Town 1-0 on Saturday.

He said: “We had a good win at the weekend and a real challenge against Championship opposition, Tuesday will be another good test and we’re looking forward to it.

“We experienced not having the ball as much which is good because as a unit it makes you stronger, as a defender you don’t mind that and it was good to get through.

“As a player you want to be playing against strong teams and that is what we’ve had during this period of the pre-season schedule.”

Younger featured at right back in the first three games of pre-season, before returning his more natural central role last time out.

He added: “It was nice to be back at centre back and it’s the first time I’ve played there this summer, I was a little bit rusty to start with but I enjoyed it.

“The stint at right back was good and it helped me to learn the position as well as feeling fitter from playing there for a few games.

“We want to control games so getting higher up the pitch at full back is important, the shift is harder getting up and down so you have to get used to that.”
