George Miller is Rovers' new No.9

20 June 2022

Rovers are delighted to announce the signing of striker George Miller on a three-year deal.

The 23-year-old arrives at the Eco-Power Stadium fresh from netting 12 goals in 41 appearances in Sky Bet League Two last season while on loan at Walsall.

He joins Rovers after reaching the end of his contract across South Yorkshire at Barnsley, and will wear the No.9 shirt during his time at the club.

Miller emerged through the ranks at Bury, scoring 16 goals in 51 appearances following his debut at 18.

He was snapped up by Championship side Middlesbrough in 2017, with loan moves to Wrexham, Bury and Bradford City during his time at the Riverside.

Barnsley paid £200,000 for his services in January 2019. Further loans at Bradford, Scunthorpe United and Walsall helped him pass 175 senior appearances at the age of 23.

Miller said: "I’m buzzing, I’ve got settled in nicely and already had chance to meet players and staff which has been great.

"Every week I’ll give it everything, I’ll run my socks off for the team and hopefully top it off with some goals as well."

First team manager Gary McSheffrey is confident Miller will add something fresh to his front line.

“Having studied his game, he looks to be the type of player we haven’t got in the final third.

“His workrate, his energy, constantly wanting the ball in behind.

“He got a good amount of goals last year in a successful season for him.

“We want him to come in and do the same. Be a nuisance up top, cause defences problems in the league and he will certainly do that.

“He goes for 90 minutes and that was what we were missing in that area.”
