Ryan Simpson is relishing being thrown straight into the deep end with Rovers after joining the club as head of performance analysis.
Simpson has become the latest new addition to the Rovers backroom staff this summer and will lead the club’s analytics of squad performance, potential signings and opposition teams.
He has been in position for several weeks and has wasted no time in getting his teeth into the task of preparing for the new campaign.
“I’m excited for this season,” he said. “I think the club is showing a lot of ambition with the players we’re trying to recruit and the contracts that have been handed out, along with the players that are already here.
“The staff have been unbelievable so far. James [Coppinger] as head of football is so passionate about the club, the same as the manager. They just want the best for Doncaster Rovers.
“It’s a fairly new group of staff with a few of us coming in, but we’ve all got the same ambition and that is to win promotion.
“That is one of the main reasons why I wanted to come here.”
Simpson previously held the role at Scunthorpe United, for whom he spent eight years in performance analysis.
“What has been best for me is that I’ve been thrown straight into it,” he said. “I’ve been given plenty of tasks and roles to do and a lot of responsibility to say I’ve only been in the job for a couple of weeks.
“Everyone has been very welcoming.”
Matt Saunders, who led performance analysis at first team level for the second half of last season, has returned to his role as head of Academy analysis. He will work closely with Simpson going forward.
