Galbraith heads on international duty

22 March 2022

Ethan Galbraith has joined up with the Northern Ireland U21 squad for a pair of matches over the coming week.

The midfielder looks set to add to his 13 caps for the age group, whom he has captained through the current qualification process for 2023 U21 European Championship.

The squad - managed by former Rovers player and coach John Schofield - will travel to Slovakia for their latest qualifier in Group C on Friday, with the kick-off in Zilina at 3pm.

Galbraith scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture with Slovakia in September.

Northern Ireland U21 will then head to Calais to play their France counterparts in a friendly on Monday at 7.45pm.

They were due to host Russia in Euros qualifying on Tuesday but the game will not take place after UEFA suspended all Russian teams from competition due to the conflict in Ukraine.

Schofield’s side currently have six points from six qualifying matches and still have outside hopes of qualification with four games remaining.

Galbraith - on loan from Manchester United - has made 32 appearances for Rovers so far this season.

He will miss Saturday’s game against Charlton Athletic due to his international call-up.
