Team spirit can drive Rovers forward - Galbraith

10 March 2022

Ethan Galbraith insists the spirit in the Rovers camp can be the driving force behind picking up the points they need in the coming weeks.

Rovers host a Gillingham side on Saturday who sit only a point above them in the Sky Bet League One standings.

Despite suffering defeat to Cheltenham Town last weekend on his return to action following injury, the Northern Ireland international is confident Rovers are on the right track as they look to secure survival.

On how close he is to full fitness:

“I had 45 minutes last week and I’ve trained hard all week so I think full games should be no problem.

“It’s been frustrating for myself but I’ve been working with the physio here and the physio back at Manchester United to get myself fully fit again.

“I’m feeling good.”

On what is required in the coming weeks:

“The lads have been getting a lot of great results and I think the confidence is back.

“Last week we got beat by the better team on the day.

“I think consistency will be massive. We’ve got to put results on the board, as the lads have done in the last few weeks.

“Gary [McSheffrey] has come in and got the confidence back in the group, and got us playing.

“Things haven’t changed much from my perspective - it’s just about getting points on the board.”

On McSheffrey’s management:

“He’s a top manager and he’s a top guy in general as well, with the players.

“He tries to get the best out of you, and builds your confidence, especially on the training pitch as well because the stuff he works on is very good.”

On his fellow midfielders at Rovers:

“There’s a lot of experienced midfielders here.

“If you look at Tommy Rowe, he’s massive for all us young lads. He’s getting older now but he’s still like a 23-year-old running around the pitch.

“Looking up to him, there’s no better man.

“On and off the pitch, he’s a top professional and he’s great with the young lads. He’s a proper leader.”

On his first full season in senior football:

“It’s been a great experience.

“It shows, when you’re in this position, who will be with you in the trenches.

“Everyone in the team has got that spirit.

“It’s been a massive learning experience and I’ll take the bad with the good.

“As a team we just need to keep working hard and stick together.”

On facing Gillingham this weekend:

“It’s massive, absolutely.

“The teams around us, we have to be getting points against them.

“They’re bigger games for us because we do need to go ahead of them but I think every game now is massive.

“The spirit in the squad is massive. The weekend wasn’t great but everyone came in Monday, working hard and hoping to get three points this weekend.”
