Officials confirmed for Gillingham clash

9 March 2022

Anthony Backhouse has been appointed referee for Rovers’ clash with Gillingham on Saturday.

The Cumbria official has taken charge of 28 matches this term, with the majority coming in Sky Bet League One. He has issued 94 yellow cards and two red across those games.

This will be his first outing of the season refereeing a Rovers game but he previously handled them on six occasions over the last four seasons, since being promoted to the EFL in 2017.

His most recent game involving Rovers was last season’s 2-1 defeat at Accrington Stanley in April. Of the six matches, Rovers won just one - the 3-0 win over Southend United during the 2018/19 season.

Backhouse will be assisted by Joe Clark and Mark Cunliffe on Saturday while Darren Handley has been assigned fourth official duties.
