'Play like every game is the last' - Focused Martin ready for Fleetwood test

17 March 2022

Josh Martin insists Rovers need a no fear attitude as they head into the final few matches of the season.

Rovers are on the road for the first of their remaining eight games, with a visit to Fleetwood Town coming up on Saturday.

With the pressure to pick up points only growing, Norwich City loanee Martin believes every game is critical for the side.

Martin on the key to collecting the required results in the coming weeks:

“I think we’ve just got to go for it - have no doubts, no fears and play like every game is the last.

“We’ve had a couple of setbacks but the results around us have gone pretty well.

“There’s been a bit of luck and I think that is what you need sometimes to get out of certain situations.

“The luck has been on our side recently and I feel like we need to go into games, get the three points.

“We’ve got to go for it and just fight.”

On preparations for matches:

“We’re working really hard every day and we’re going into every game with the mindset to win.

“We know the points are there for the taking and that’s what we’re trying to do.

“We’re preparing really well. Training has been really good. We’ve had a few weeks where we’ve had a full week of training, no midweek game, and I feel like that has helped a lot.

“We’re getting there and I think there will be a game where we’ll come into it, we’ll all come together and we can get a bit of form going.”

On the biggest learning points of his loan:

“I think as a player it’s about the awareness on the pitch and the understanding of my role in the team and things like that. When to dribble, when to pass.

“You have to mix and match what you’re doing.

“As a person, coming on loan, it humbles you very much. When you’re around your team mates, you become like them more and that’s massive.

“I had quite a few first team cameos with Norwich last season in the Championship and the Premier League the year before. With that, you don’t want to be staying in the U23s - you want to be in the environment where you’re playing in front of fans because that’s where you’re going to learn the most.

“That experience is so big. I think you need be playing at first team level to understand the game fully.”
