Hard work key to getting Rovers firing insists Biggins

13 November 2022

Harrison Biggins says hard work is the key to ensuring Rovers have plenty more days like Saturday’s 3-1 win at Grimsby Town.

The midfielder was on the scoresheet with a stunning strike as Rovers collected a deserved win, securing back-to-back triumphs in Sky Bet League Two.

And as they continue to acclimatise to life under Danny Schofield, Biggins says the hard yards on the training ground will be vital to carrying out the head coach’s wishes.

On how the game played out:

“This is a really tough place to come. To start the game how we did, and getting the early goal, it really settled us down.

“We’ve been working hard in training recently. And we knew it was pretty much a sell-out so the crowd were going to get behind them. We needed to silence them early and we did that.

“We always worry about ourselves and I think we did that great. It showed that we’d had a full week’s work with the gaffer after a couple of weeks where we had back-to-back games. We’re getting better and better.”

On George Miller’s goalscoring ability:

“He deserved it. He’s getting the goals as well as his workrate. He’s holding the ball up and we’re playing off him. He’s doing really well.”

On his own goal:

“As it was dropping, I was going to hit it on the full. I don’t know why but I changed my mind and I’m glad I did.

“I could hit ten of them and that might be the only one that goes in like it did.

“When it’s dropping like that, it’s there to be hit. In the first half I had one that was a lot easier to hit and I put it over the stand. I soon put that behind me and I thankfully I saw it go in.”

On his own form:

“I’m full of confidence at the minute. I think that shows throughout the team. Everyone is full of confidence and playing for each other. We’re only going to get better.”

On the progress of the team:

“I think it shows a real marker of where we’re at that we’ve come to a place like Grimsby and had a really convincing win.

“We’ve just got to keep our heads down, keep working hard. We’ve got another game next week so we’ll review this one and work hard to be ready for Colchester.

“We’ve now got Saturday-Saturday for a while and it’s going to help us - getting on the training ground all week and the gaffer getting his ideas into us.”

On players returning from injury:

“Everyone has to play for their shirt and show in training why they should be playing. If you’ve got the shirt at the moment, you’ve got to keep at.

“The other lads have been training really well and have been great around the place. It’s up to them to fight for their spot.”
