Owen Scattergood is buzzing to have scored his first goal of the season for the U18s in Rovers’ 3-0 win over Grimsby Town.
The attacker got an assist to his name in the second-half as Will Green got on the scoresheet before Max Adamson closed the scoring in stoppage time.
The result saw Rovers U18s return to Cantley Park for the first time in over a month with a win and Scattergood felt his side’s response to a winless run was worthy of the three points.
He said: “The boys had to dig deep today after a few sticky weeks that we’ve had to deal with so that we could return to our winning ways.
“We’ve been training hard and then carried that into the game by sticking up for each other and we’ve shown that by getting the win against Grimsby and that’s massive because nobody likes losing.
“At the start of the season we had a really good run and the boys had a really good feeling when we were winning games with the fashion we were doing it in, so now that we’ve won again, we all want to get that feeling back.
“We’ve taken the first step towards doing that and we’ll be aiming to build on it in the next game.”
Scattergood scored his first goal of the 2022/23 campaign against Grimsby as well as getting an assist to his name which left the youth team player pleased with his contribution upon his return to the starting eleven.
He added: “I’m buzzing to get the goal, the ball has come down the left hand side and Will Green has put in a great delivery that’s dropped right onto my foot so I just had to make clean contact really and it was a goal.
“All game I was trying to be as positive on the ball as I can by running at defenders, trying to create opportunities and as a bonus I’ve got an assist and returned the favour to Will Green from the first-half.
“We’ve got the result we’ve been wanting for a while and I’m just happy to be able to contribute towards that.”
