Anderson takes positives from return to action

12 October 2022

Tom Anderson says he is ready to kick on following his return to the side in the Papa John’s Trophy defeat to Barnsley.

Anderson played an hour of the 4-2 defeat as he stepped up his recovery from injury.

Anderson on how the game played out:

“At the end of the game we’ve won the second half 2-0, so that’s the positives.

“We know the first half we weren’t at our best. I say that, but I do think we played some good football at times. We got into good positions but we weren’t as clinical as them.

“Being 4-0 down is not what we wanted when we went in at half time and we needed a reaction, which we got in the second half.

“We said no more goals for them. They finish at four and we try to go out and do what we’re good at, getting a few goals to get back in the game, which is what we did.

“It’s a positive finish to the game but we’ve got to make sure we start like that.”

On George Miller’s brace:

“He’s massive for the team. He came on and showed everyone what he can do after that little niggle.

“He’s come back on and he’s effective at what he does. He’s taken his goals really well. He’s a goalscorer, a good player.”

On his injury and return:

“It’s difficult when you’ve been out for as long as I was and you’re not able to do what you love doing.

“Coming back was difficult. But I’m working my way back up and 60 minutes in this one is a good step.

“I think it always takes you a few games to get back up to speed but my mentality is always right and if I’m called upon, I’ll be ready to give my everything.”

On the progress of his fellow defenders:

“I think both Ro-Shaun [Williams] and Bobby [Faulkner] have been excellent. Ro-Shaun has been very consistent and played almost every game.

“Bobby is an 18-year-old kid who has come in and done tremendous. He’s a great lad and always wants to work. His effort and desire that he shows in games is exactly what you want in the team.”
