Clayton blames individual errors for Carlisle defeat

16 October 2022

Adam Clayton blamed individual errors for costing Rovers the chance to fight their way back into the game at Carlisle United.

Rovers were a goal down at the break but slumped to a three goal deficit by 66 minutes.

Clayton on how the game played out:

“You don’t like to lose a game, especially one that we were more than in. They scored in a very good and competitive first half where we missed a great chance with their keeper making a great save. They scored a great goal.

“We went in at half time quite pleased with how it was. It was a proper game and an enjoyable one to play in.

“But with individual errors we were out of the game before we could start to get back in it.

“We’d started the second half and had the first five to ten minutes, getting plenty of crosses in, but they scored from us attacking.

“We need to nip that in the bud and that’s on us as players. It’s something we’re trying to do.”

On Rovers’ trend of not leading at half time:

“In terms of our preparation for games, the warm-ups are really good. They’re really loud and noisy. The dressing room is good before a game.

“Maybe it comes down to confidence. Getting after it from the start before waiting to see what the opposition team has got.

“That is on us individually and as a team to see if we can be on the front foot more.

“It’s something we need to work on. If we do get ourselves in front, we’ve got the team and the players to manage the game and then get our passing game going.”
