Close edging towards full fitness

14 October 2022

Ben Close says he is edging towards full fitness with every passing game in a Rovers shirt.

The central midfielder made his first appearance of the season at Lincoln in the Papa John’s Trophy in September, and has since featured in Rovers’ past four league games.

On his return:

“It was good to get another 90 minutes under my belt against Leyton Orient, and I feel like I’m getting fitter and stronger each week.

“It’s a good feeling to have the confidence in my body and I’m looking forward to kicking on over the next few weeks and months.

“Coming back from injury, the last few weeks have been a case of ticking off milestones in my head and getting past the little checkpoints I’ve been set.”

On facing Carlisle United this weekend:

“I feel like we’ve had some good moments but there is always room for improvement. We’re in a decent position in the table and a big period coming up.

“The aim is to find that consistency and give ourselves the best chance of challenging at the top end of the table come the end of the season.

“Carlisle have had a really good start but we’re going there with a lot of confidence believing we can get a result up there.”
