Faulkner: a moment I'll cherish

5 October 2022

Bobby Faulkner says he will cherish his first Rovers goal forever despite the result not going their way against Hartlepool United.

The 18-year-old struck the equaliser for Gary McSheffrey’s side at Victoria Park, before Wes McDonald’s late winner sent Rovers home empty handed.

On his emotions after scoring:

“I’m always in the box for set-pieces and looking for a goal, it was great to score in front of our fans and a moment I’ll remember forever.

“I was over the moon to score, it was massive for me but not quite as sweet given that we came away from the game with nothing.

“My family weren’t at the game but they were all watching on from home, and I’m sure they will have enjoyed the goal.”

On his progression:

“Jumping into first team football you learn a lot in a short space of time, the experienced lads have helped me a lot and that’s something I really appreciate.

“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind but I’ve got to take my chance, circumstances have opened doors for me and my performance levels have helped me stay in and around the team.

“I think my style is different when compared to many of the defenders my age, and that comes from getting into football fairly late and playing against men at a young age.”
