George Miller's ninth goal of the season secured a 1-1 draw for Rovers at Crewe Alexandra in Sky Bet League Two.
Crewe took the lead 14 minutes in as top scorer Courtney Baker-Richardson guided his header beyond Jonathan Mitchell.
Miller then had a chance to level the scores just before half-time, but saw his penalty saved by Arthur Okonkwo after Baker-Richardson had handled in the area.
The No.9 wasn't to be denied though and after being played in by Harrison Biggins on 77 minutes, he finished expertly to earn Danny Schofield's side a point in the head coach's first game in charge.
