Rovers U18s visit Lincoln City U18s for the opening round of the FA Youth Cup 2022/23.

The trip to the LNER Stadium provides one of the toughest opening tests for Rovers’ U18s as they face one of their league rivals who they have already faced once this season. That game ended goalless

Last season, the youth team left the competition in round two, beating Basford United away in the first round before a South Yorkshire derby at the Eco-Power Stadium against Rotherham United.

Rovers took the lead in that fixture through Owen Scattergood and looked odds on to progress through to the third round where a tie against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns awaited. However, the Millers hit back late in the game to force the match into extra time. Rotherham then went on to get their second to send, then, Gary McSheffrey’s team agonisingly out of the competition.

While current U18s manager Chad Gribble temporarily assists new Rovers head coach Danny Schofield in the first-team, lead youth Development Phase coach Frank Sinclair will take charge of the fixture.

Ahead of the tie, Sinclair said: “We need to work hard to ensure we put on the best possible performance on the day.

“We need to show our spirit and be more clinical when chances come to us because I’ve got no doubts that this team creates opportunities.

“Our performance has got to be better than how we performed against Huddersfield.

“In training, we’ll be lifting spirits and preparing for a battle.”

The match takes place at the LNER Stadium on Wednesday, October 26 at 7pm. Ticket information can be found HERE.
