Schofield praises deserved win for Rovers against Gillingham

Rovers head coach Danny Schofield thought his side’s 1-0 win over Gillingham was thoroughly deserved.

Schofield registered his first victory as Rovers head coach, with another dominant performance on show against Neil Harris’ Gills.

“On the balance of play the win was well deserved,” he said.

“We did not hit the same heights that we hit in the loss against Stevenage mid-week, which was down to how organised Gillingham were.

“It was a competitive game and we found it difficult at times to break their defensive structure down.

“I’m sure Gillingham would have analysed our last two games while I have been head coach. From watching the clips they made the decision to make it difficult for us by reducing our spaces in attacking areas.

“Our goal was something we spoke about at length pre-game and I thought we executed it very well.”

Rovers’ win came courtesy of Harrison Biggins’ second-half goal from Kyle Knoyle’s cross. It comes after Biggins has hit the cross bar in the last two games and picked up two sponsors' man-of-the-match awards.

Schofield was quick to praise the midfielder, and his teammates, for their continued impressive performances.

“Harrison has been fantastic since I have come into the building. And like the rest of the players, he has trained with good intensity,” he added.

“He thoroughly deserved his goal and man of the match award that he has got in the last two games.

“I like to instill belief in my players. I remind them daily that they’re footballers who can play and they're here for a reason.

“Credit must go to the lads for how they have taken on the instructions and delivered.”
