Lead youth Development Phase coach Frank Sinclair felt Rovers U18s lacked a clinical edge in their 2-0 loss at Huddersfield Town.

Despite been more than competitive throughout the entirety of the 90 minutes, the visitors were left to rue missed chances as a Connor Falls double gave the hosts the three points.

Rovers had an effort hit the post in the first half and two great attempts from second half substitute Max Adamson expertly saved by the Terriers’ keeper with Sinclair pointing out how the end result could have been different.

He said: “Our performance against Huddersfield was a bit patchy and there was some really good stuff from us at times but we gave the ball away unnecessarily.

“Individually there’s been some great showings, and on another day we probably get at least two goals because I thought throughout the game we had the better chances, but the difference today was that they were more clinical than us.

“They took two of their chances and we failed to take any of our six really good opportunities, but we’ve got to give credit to Huddersfield’s goalkeeper because he’s made two really good saves.

“On another day we could’ve come away with a point but based on our performance I’m not too sure we deserved to, but we did work hard it was just the on the ball stuff we’ve worked on all season wasn’t there today.”

With Rovers missing a number of goalscoring opportunities either side of the interval, Sinclair had a clear message for his side to ensure the goals returned.

He added: “The lads have just got to start taking their chances, don’t hit the post, don’t hit the keeper and hit the back of the net.

“They know that and we do plenty of finishing in training and we’re putting them in the top corners, hitting the stanchions and working the goalkeepers but we were a bit poor on that front.

“In the first half we’ve been unlucky with the shot that’s hit the wrong side of the post and on another day Adamson comes on and gets two goals for us which he’s done quite a bit this season but it just wasn’t to be.”
