The players gave everything in Stevenage defeat, says Schofield

26 October 2022

Rovers head coach Danny Schofield praised his players for their efforts during an impressive display against Stevenage.

A goal from Jordan Roberts for the visitors was all that separated the sides on Tuesday evening. But a dominant performance from Rovers left them wondering how they did not manage to get anything from the game.

“We were the better team - once we get that style of play nailed down we'll win far more than we lose,” Schofield said.

“Apart from their goal, they did not have any real chances. We knew they were a threat from crosses, and for the most part, we stopped them. However, it was disappointing that we conceded from the one successful cross they managed to make.

“What the players have done is fantastic. For anyone who knows football, we were the better team against Stevenage.

“The players I have in the building are giving everything and they are always wanting to improve."

With only three training sessions and one game under his belt heading into Tuesday night’s match, Schofield has been impressed by how quickly the squad has taken on board his philosophy.

“I have to praise the players for how they have performed and for how they have taken on our instructions really quickly,” he added.

“They have managed to implement what we want against a team who are second in the league.

“On our last two performances, you can see dominance. There are some talented football players at this football club who can really thrive playing the way I want to play.”
