Albert Jenkins inducted into Hall of Fame

5 August 2019

On August 3, the club’s founder Albert Jenkins was inducted into the Hall of Fame thanks to a fans’ vote.

To celebrate Rovers’ 140th year, the club are introducing 14 new players into the Hall of Fame – one from each of the club’s 14 decades.  Supporters will be invited to vote for each of the 14 inductees and each winner will be inducted at a home match.

The season kicked off with the introduction of Albert Jenkins. In 1879, Jenkins – an 18-year-old LNER employee – was asked to assemble a football team to play the Yorkshire Institute for the Deaf and Dumb. Little would he know that 140 years later the team would not only still exist but be thriving with fans across the town coming together on Saturday’s to support them.

On Saturday, Rovers' oldest season ticket holder Ambrose Vardy accepted the certificate on behalf of Jenkins.

The next vote will be coming soon with supporters invited to vote for the stand out legend of the 1890s.
