Moore believes Grimsby Town will provide a tough test

12 August 2019

Darren Moore believes Grimsby Town will provide a tough test when his side travel to Blundell Park for the Carabao Cup first round.

Despite being in a higher league, Moore dismissed any suggestion that his Rovers side will be favourites going into the cup tie against Sky Bet League Two opposition.

“You can’t say we’re favourites because it’s cup football. Cup football has a different feeling to League matches – I don’t know why that is but every cup match is a tough game,” he said.

“You don’t get a God given right to say you’re the favourites because you’re in the league above. It’s a professional game, we’ll give Grimsby all the respect they deserve. They’ve got a wonderful management team, good players and we will have to be at our very best to come away with anything.”

Rovers travelled to Grimsby for a pre-season friendly so both sides will be well aware of what the other can offer.

“It will be a tough game. They’re a strong team, they’ve started the season well and they’re a physical team. We had a little glimpse of them in pre-season so they know what we’re about and we know what they’re about,” he said.

“The squad has trained Monday and we’ll access in the morning and select a team from there. They worked hard in training and they looked good.

“We’re looking forward to the game on Tuesday, it’s a great one for the fans both teams are fairly local so it’s got all the ingredients for a good cup match.”
