Rovers manager Darren Moore says he can’t wait to get the ball rolling with the visit of Gillingham to the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday.
Moore takes charge for the first time in Sky Bet League One since his arrival over the summer, and he says he feels a real buzz ahead of the season opener.
“The feeling and the energy is always something to look forward to, I’m really looking forward to it, we’ve put in a lot of hard work this week especially, and we’ll be ready come three o’clock on Saturday afternoon,” he said.
“I’m feeling a bit of energy within myself now just thinking about it, the adrenaline is going within me and I can really feel the buzz in the atmosphere, the feeling is very good around the place and I’m looking forward to seeing the place in full swing.
“We want to be a team that plays on the front foot, I want the players to be creative in their play and in their thinking, but above all, we want togetherness within the team with a hard-working attitude.”
Moore’s side come up against Gillingham at the weekend, a side who themselves have changed manager during the off-season, with Steve Evans the man now in charge of the Gills, and the gaffer knows his side will be in for a big test on the opening day.
“It’s a game that we’re all really looking forward to, the opening game of the season is always an exciting time, especially in front of your own fans, we know that Gillingham will provide a tough test because a team under Steve Evans always does,” he added.
“The players have shown a wonderful appetite, and I want to implement that further within the team, even once the season kicks off, we have to make sure we keep working to keep getting better.
“We have to remember that as well as having the desire to add that to your team, you’ll always come up against a team that will look to combat that and stop that, but that’s the way I believe we should go forward.”
