Moore praises Rovers board

8 August 2019

Darren Moore says the Rovers board deserve credit for the work done in keeping Ben Whiteman at the club.

The captain remains at the Keepmoat Stadium despite interest from the Sky Bet Championship, and Moore is pleased to have kept hold of one of his best players.

He said: “Ben is our player, we had a few bids for him but the board have been stern in their approach and their valuation of him.

“He’s really happy here and played well last weekend, we saw parts of his game which show his quality and versatility.

“The chairman and board of directors have made it quite clear in terms of what his valuation is and his importance to the football club.”

Ahead of a trip to face Rochdale this weekend, Moore believes Rovers will have to be at their best to claim all three points at the Crown Oil Arena.

He added: “Rochdale are a good team, they are well rehearsed with the way they want to play and had a really good result at Tranmere on the opening day.

“They play good football and have some good players in their squad, they have the ingredients in there to have a really good season.

“If our performance is good then the result won’t be too far away, we’re heading in the right direction which I’m happy with.”
