Moore praises Rovers' hard work in Fleetwood victory

18 August 2019

Manager Darren Moore felt that Rovers’ fighting spirit helped them over the line after Saturday’s dramatic 3-2 win over Fleetwood Town in Sky Bet League One.

A 91st-minute own-goal from Wes Burns saw Rovers pick up a first three points under Moore after a topsy-turvy game at the Keepmoat Stadium, and the Rovers boss was quick to heap praise on his side.

“It was a game that really ebbed and flowed for both sides throughout, Fleetwood started really well and got an early goal, but our fighting spirit and determination helped us to get back into the game,” he said.

“It was a great advert for League One I thought, it was two teams that were at it from the off, Fleetwood are a very good team with some great players, so we knew we needed to up our game if we were to get anything out of it and the boys delivered.

“Credit must go to the boys for the way that they stayed in the game, we thought Kieran Sadlier might have won it a few minutes before the end on the edge of the box, you’d back him from there, but we got that luck at the end to win it.”

Moore’s men remain unbeaten in the league after three games, and the gaffer believes the hard work his squad have been putting him is really starting to show.

“We knew we had to work hard out of possession, and I thought at times we did well to nullify and contain them, but they always carried that threat going forward, we couldn’t afford to switch off at any moment,” he added.

“Like I said to the boys after the game, we’re not even six weeks in yet, this is a new team that has come together, they’re trying to do the right things, we’re trying to build here and these tough games will only help us further.

“This game can prove to be a good marker for us in terms of a positive result, we had to fight and work very hard for it, we have another quick turn-around now with a game on Tuesday and we’ll look to go again.”

Rovers are back home on Saturday August 24 with an early kick-off vs high-flying Lincoln City. Tickets can be purchased from the Club Doncaster Box Office, or online at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
