Respect to Bury staff and fans

28 August 2019

Rovers manager Darren Moore has paid tribute to the staff and supporters of Bury FC for their efforts in trying to get Saturday’s fixture at Gigg Lane played.

Hundreds of volunteers went to the Lancashire club’s ground on Tuesday to start preparations for Saturday’s scheduled Sky Bet League One clash, although the fixture will not go ahead after the Shakers were expelled from the EFL.

Moore said: “As a club we have sent our best wishes through our social media accounts, and we’ve all been watching with a real sense of admiration as so many football fans - including those of clubs other than Bury - mucked in with all the jobs required to put on a football game.

“These hundreds of fans, along with the remaining club staff who in some cases will be owed months and months of unpaid wages, can hold their heads up high.

“They have done all they can to get the game on and save their historic club, they are a credit to their club, families and communities and deserve so much better than this. It is a sad day for football.”

Rovers supporters who had purchased tickets for Saturday’s fixture can claim refunds from the Club Doncaster Box Office.
