Paul Stancliffe thinks that Darren Moore’s presence at U18 games is a major lift for the young players.

The Rovers manager and his coaching staff have been in attendance to watch the U18s win and draw their opening two home games at Cantley Park.

Stancliffe said: “It is a motivational boost for the lads to see the gaffer here watching. When we got back to the Keepmoat after the Grimsby game he was full of praise for the team.

“He has had them in with the first-team for a meeting on Monday mornings following the game expressing how pleased he is with their performances so he knows what they can do.

“At any level it is about consistency and the lads are looking for a pro contracts. Yes they will have the odd bad game but in the main they have got to be playing consistently better.”

Rovers came from behind twice against Rotherham thanks to a blazing strike from Will McGowan and a 94th minute penalty conversion from Jack Watson.

Stancliffe added: “We ask for standards and the players themselves set the standards against Grimsby so if they fall below that then they leave themselves open.

“Maybe they were over-confident or too big headed and those are the words that came up in our debrief after the game.

“It is disappointing and frustrating to concede two goals against the run of play because it is something we had looked at and was aware of. We had worked on it in training to try and combat it and the first time that they do it we fall for it which is annoying.”
