Ben Whiteman was named as Rovers captain two weeks ago and described being awarded the armband as a massive honour.
The 23-year-old took the armband following an impressive 2018/19 season which saw him voted Players’ Player and Player of the Year at the club’s end of season awards.
Whiteman said: “It’s a massive honour to lead the lads out and it’s a big achievement for me and my family. I’m delighted to represent the football club and I can’t thank everyone enough.”
Rovers received interest in Whiteman over the summer from Championship sides but the midfielder has committed his future to the club.
He added: “I’m really happy here and I’m looking forward to playing my football at Rovers. To get interest from the Championship and to be recognised is an achievement but I’m very happy here.
“Knowing that the club worked to keep me here, that kind of thing makes you feel valued and obviously being captain makes me feel valued too – I’m delighted to be here.”
